Workshop 1: Discovering your future career path by transferable skills

by AcademicTransfer

Discovering life beyond your PhD or postdoc can be an exciting journey, with a vast array of career possibilities awaiting exploration. Did you know that approximately 70% of PhDs and 80% of postdocs in the Netherlands venture into non-academic career paths? If you’re curious about where your skills can take you outside academia, this workshop is for you!

In this workshop we introduce six career paths tailored for researchers in the Netherlands. Moreover, we’ll showcase how AcademicTransfer’s tools can support you on your career journey, and we’ll dive into transferable skills. These skills aren’t just beneficial for today—they’re the keys to shaping a fulfilling career journey for years to come.

Workshop 2: Process of career orientation, reflecting and making decisions.

By UU Career services

In this globalized age of technologies traditional careers have given way to more dynamic careers. Such careers are harder to plan or direct. A by-product of looking for direction is a sense of uncertainty. This stems from not knowing what the future will bring. An uncomfortable feeling and yet a natural aspect of the process of career (re)orientation. By trying to embrace this and focus on the things that are within your control, you can get a better grip on this process.

In this workshop you will briefly reflect on three fundamental questions that are central to the process of career (re)orientation. What drives me? What are my qualities? And what transferable skills do I possess? Answering these questions makes it easier to explore the job market. You will also examine what kind of organizations appeals to you and why. Knowing this will help you to determine the scope of your search. You will also discover how ChatGPT and LinkedIn can help you in exploring the job market in terms of potential job roles, employees and networking opportunities. Having such an overview will make the process of career (re)orientation more tangible.

After completing this workshop you will have a better understanding of how to approach the job market. You will have more clarity about potential job roles and employees that match your preference. This allows you to continue your job search with more focus and self-confidence.
